Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 24, 2026
This is how Yasumi handles your information. We keep it short and plain, because that is how we would explain it to you at the counter.
Who we are
Yasumi is a counter-dining omakase and handroll restaurant in Santa Teresa, Puntarenas, Costa Rica. This policy covers our website (yasumicr.com), our reservation and experience booking forms, our newsletter, and the conversations we have with you over WhatsApp, email, and phone.
If you have a question about any of this, write to us at yasumi.santateresa@gmail.com.
What we collect
We only ask for what we need to take care of you.
When you reserve a seat or book an experience
Your name, email, phone number, party size, the date and time you want, dietary restrictions or allergies, and anything you tell us about the occasion. For private experiences (Home Experience, Closed Doors, Fishing, Helicopter), we may also collect the address where the experience happens.
When you sign up for our newsletter or unlock a recipe
Your email address. Nothing else.
When you message us on WhatsApp
Your phone number, your WhatsApp name, and the content of the conversation. We use the WhatsApp Business Platform, which is operated by Meta. Some replies are first drafted with the help of an AI assistant, but a person on our team reads and approves every message before it is sent.
When you use a coupon or referral program
Your name and contact details so we can honor the offer. If you are a taxi driver or partner in our referral program, we also keep the details needed to track and pay your referrals.
When you dine with us
Our point-of-sale system (Loyverse) records what was ordered and, if you choose to share it, your name and contact details so we can remember your preferences next time.
When you pay a deposit
Deposits are paid by bank transfer directly to our account. We see the transfer confirmation your bank sends. We never ask for card numbers, and no payment details are entered on our website.
When you visit the website
Standard technical data: your IP address, browser type, device, the pages you visit, and how you got here. Some of this comes through cookies and analytics tools (more on that below).
How we use it
- To confirm, hold, and prepare for your reservation or experience
- To reach you about your booking (changes, confirmations, same-day check-ins)
- To accommodate allergies and dietary needs
- To send you our newsletter and recipes, only if you asked for them
- To honor coupons and track referrals
- To remember returning guests and what they enjoyed
- To understand how the website is used and make it work better
- To measure whether our ads on Google and Meta are reaching the right people
- To reply to reviews and messages
- To meet legal and accounting obligations in Costa Rica
We do not sell your information. We do not rent it. The only advertising-related sharing we do is through the analytics tools described below.
Who helps us handle it
We are a small team, so we rely on a few services to run the restaurant. Each of them only gets what they need to do their job:
- Heroku (Salesforce) — hosts our website and reservation system
- Loyverse — point of sale and guest records
- Resend — sends our emails (confirmations, newsletter)
- Meta — our WhatsApp conversations (WhatsApp Business Platform) and the Meta Pixel, which tells us how visitors reach our site from Instagram and Facebook
- Google — Maps embeds on our site, our Google Business Profile, and Google Analytics
- Anthropic — AI tools that help us draft replies and summaries. A person always reviews before anything is sent.
Some of these companies store data outside Costa Rica, mainly in the United States. By using our services, you understand that your information may be processed there.
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our guests and team.
Cookies and analytics
We use a small number of cookies:
- Session cookie — keeps the site working while you move between pages. Essential.
- Recipe access cookie — remembers that you already gave us your email so you don't have to enter it again.
- Google Analytics — helps us see which pages people visit and how they found us. Google's cookies are used for this.
- Meta Pixel — lets us understand whether people who see our posts or ads on Instagram and Facebook end up visiting or booking. Meta may use this data under its own privacy policy.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work, though the recipe pages may ask for your email again. You can also opt out of Google Analytics with Google's browser add-on, and manage Meta's use of your activity in your Facebook or Instagram ad settings.
How long we keep it
- Reservation and booking records: 3 years after your visit, for accounting and to recognize returning guests
- Newsletter subscription: until you unsubscribe
- WhatsApp conversations: 2 years after the last message
- Website analytics: up to 14 months in Google Analytics. Meta keeps Pixel data under its own policy.
We delete or anonymize information when we no longer need it.
Your rights
You can ask us at any time to:
- See the information we have about you
- Correct something that is wrong
- Delete it (unless we are legally required to keep it, for example for tax records)
- Stop sending you the newsletter — every email has an unsubscribe link, or just reply and tell us
- Stop messaging you on WhatsApp — reply "STOP" or simply ask
Write to yasumi.santateresa@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days.
Under Costa Rican law (Ley 8968, Ley de Protección de la Persona frente al Tratamiento de sus Datos Personales) you also have the right to file a complaint with PRODHAB, the national data protection agency. If you are visiting from the European Union or the United Kingdom, you have equivalent rights under the GDPR, including the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
Our website and booking forms are meant for adults. If you are a parent and believe a child has sent us information, write to us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. If the change is significant, we will say so on the site.
